He is one of the best riveters in the union, but he
is still a day laborer. She comes from money, but
when they saw each other, it was love at first sight.
They date, they dance, they fall for each other.
First, she had to say no to Clay, which was easy.
Then she had to bring Hap to meet her parents, which
was not easy. Hap is the wrong type, but he dislikes
their lifestyle as much as they do his. But if it is
to work, he will be the sole support of Juliette and
he cares not for her money.

Children of Dreams
CHILDREN OF DREAMS

(Musical)
[1 hour 18 minutes]

Advertised variously as a "musical romance" and
an "operetta style drama", Children of Dreams was
the last of three Warner Bros. musicals written
directly for the screen by Sigmund Romberg and
Oscar Hammerstein II. The story revolves around a
group of singing migrant workers, laboring away
in a Western apple orchard. One of the more
talented of the workers, pretty Molly Standing
(Margaret Schilling), manages to achieve fame and
fortune as an opera star. This turn of events was
reportedly inspired by the career of real-life
diva Anna Case, who is about the only New York
stage personality not seen in this picture.
Children of Dreams offers a few amusing turns by
vaudevillian Tom Patricola and by Show Boat's
original "Captain Andy," Charles Winnigner.

Sunshine Susie
SUNSHINE SUSIE

(Comedy | Musical)
[1 hour 20 minutes]

Released in the U.S. as The Office Girl, Sunshine Susie
is the English-language version of the German comedy
hit Die Privatsekretarian. The charming Renate Muller
repeats her role from the German version as Susie, the
perky new stenographer for a stuffy Viennese banking
firm. Here she falls in love with Arvay (Owen Nares),
whom she assumes is a lowly clerk. In fact, Arvay is
the bank's managing director, but he doesn't let on,
fearful that Susie has a prejudice against wealthy
men. Reviewers in 1931 were most impressed by the
breezy comic performance of Jack Hulbert, who was
hailed as a "new find," even though he'd been a
stage favorite since 1916! Enlivening the proceedings
are four songs, carried over from Die
Privatesekretarian but "English-ized" by Paul Abraham
and Desmond Carter. Sunshine Susie was distributed in
the U.S. by RKO Radio Pictures.
